This is the email I sent out to my family to inform them of the grand news!
Hi Everybody!
As you may or may not be aware, I just returned home from a two week trip to Europe. I went with my girlfriend Jenny to visit my mom in Germany, then we flew to Rome for a few days, then drove to Lucerne and Interlaken, Switzerland, and finally over to Paris. It was a really amazing trip - my first time off the continent.
Now, I'm not one for souvenirs (I just take tons of pictures - which will be available for your perusal in the somewhat near future), but I did feel the need to pick one very special one up while I was on a cruise on the Rhine River in Germany. Jenny and I stopped at a town called Rudesheim (sorry for spelling that incorrectly, but I'm not sure how to get the umlaut on the u) at the halfway point of the cruise. We walked around a bit and found a nice quiet place to sit down.
We reminisced some about when we first started dating and this very awkward fortune cookie I got on our second date. It said something to the effect of, "An unexpected relationship will become permanent." I asked Jenny if she remembered it, and of course she did, but she didn't say it quite right. I felt kind of bad correcting her, and the way that I did it actually made her cry. But they weren't tears of frustration or anger, they were tears of joy.
The way I corrected her was by taking the ring box out of my pocket, opening it to reveal not only the engagement ring, but the very same fortune I had received on our second date nearly two years ago.
She never actually said yes - but actions speak louder than words, so when she put the ring on and hugged me for dear life I knew I was set.
And so only two days into my two week long trip, I had already picked up a souvenir to trump all souvenirs!
Once we have any details, I'll be sure to share them with you.
Love,
~Justin
that's a nice story.
